R. L. Evrett, 87, a resident of Ooltewah, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at his home with his loving family by his side. He attended Bayside Baptist Church and where he was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class. He served in several Baptist churches as an ordained deacon, Bible teacher and organist in the Tennessee and Georgia areas. He retired from General Motors in Doraville, GA after 15 years of service. He then worked alongside in his wife's tax service as a partner for 10 years. He was an extensive traveler with his wife to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, many Caribbean cruises, Mexico, Canada and the continental United States to include most of the National Parks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ransom Evrett and Lillie Lee Trotter Evrett and sister, Juanita Kile and husband, Owen. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen N. Evrett of Ooltewah; son, Jerry Lynn Evrett and wife, Teresa of Canton, GA; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters, Thelma Legg and husband, Robert of Harrison and Carrie Lee Ramsey and husband, Jim of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Grady Cooper and Ron Grant officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
