Walter Morris Guinn, Jr.

Walter Morris Guinn, 80, a resident of Cleveland, passed away December 7, 2009 at his home. He was born July 28, 1929 in Polk County, Tn. Following his military service, Guinn spent 27 years with TVA. He worked at various power plants. He was Operations supervisor at Sequoyah Nuclear Plant when he left TVA. At that time he joined the effort to start the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). Guinn spent 7 years with INPO where he contributed to the safe operation of nuclear power plants in the United States as well as foreign countries. Following his INPO retirement, he spent 3 years performing personal services contracts for various nuclear utilities and the Department of Energy. Walter Guinn was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter M and Alice (Dotson) Guinn of Polk County; first wife, Oneita Murray Guinn; son, Steven Murray Guinn and brother, John Stanton Guinn. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Guinn; son, Stanton Morris Guinn and wife Kathy; grandson, Paul Stanton Guinn and wife Courtney; great grandson, Noah Steven Guinn; sister Ann Burris and husband Glenn of Benton; brother, Wendell Guinn and wife Jane of Atlanta; stepdaughter, Jala West; step grandsons, Zakary and Lindsay Aragon; stepson, Neal Howard and wife Paula and step grandson, Myles Howard. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Griffith and Reverend Sam Melton officiating. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Jeff Bowling, Mark Burris, Guy Denton, Charlie Guinn, Matthew Guinn, Paul Guinn, Rodney Murray and Steve Thornton serving as pallbearers. Elston Thornton will serve as honorary pallbearer. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
