Mildred E. Degler, 82, a longtime resident of Cleveland passed away Friday, November 13, 2009 in a local hospital. Mrs. Degler proudly served as an Auxiliary Military Police officer with the United States Army during World War II on the Manhattan Project where the Atomic bomb was built. She served as a volunteer Gray Lady and with Meals on Wheels and various other organizations in Cleveland. She was well known for her interest in antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Degler; parents, George E. White and Ida Vanhorn White; brother, Ralph J. White and sister, Rubye Burgess. She is survived by her son, James V. Degler, Jr., and his wife Carmila of Cleveland; daughter, Susan E. Goins of Cleveland; grandchildren: James Allen Degler, Michael C. Goins, Jordan H. Goins, Carla Reagan and Jared Degler; great grandchildren: Ryan Reagan, Scott Reagan, Ethan Reagan, Noah Reagan, Kyleigh Hammontree, Andy Degler and Taylor Degler. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Stansberry officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with James Allen Degler, Jared Degler, Jack Reagan, Randy Hammontree, Michael Goins and Stan White serving as pallbearers.
