Oris Burl Jenkins, 81, a resident of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins was employed for 30 years with General Motors as an auto assembly inspector. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley S. Jenkins and Elmer Lee Shults Jenkins; brothers: Dexter Jenkins and McNiel "Mac" Jenkins. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean Jenkins of Cleveland; children: Sandra Hembree and husband Melvin of Benton, Tn., Alan Jenkins and wife Kathy of Cleveland, Ohio, Dennis Jenkins of Cleveland, TN and Scott Jenkins of North Carolina; 5 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Friday, October 16, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Montcrief officiating. Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors. Adam Jenkins, Alan Jenkins, Jr., David Vercillo, Jr., Alan Jenkins, Sr., Steven Hembree and McNiel Jenkins, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Don Payne, Danny Shults, Willis "Fat" Shults, Dan Britt, Robbie Jenkins and T. Roy Jones will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
