Sue Stringer Word, 88, passed away at her home in Cleveland, TN on October, 10, 2009. She was born January 4, 1921 in Columbia, MS, the sixth of eight children. She graduated from Improve High School and then attended Drone's Business College. She was married to Alvin Word, Jr., in Jackson, MS on August 30, 1941. They were founding members of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Jackson. They co-taught a five year old Sunday school class for many years. They later joined First Baptist Church of Jackson and were members of Jennings Orr's Sunday school class. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Victoria (Watts) and William Jefferson Stringer; her loving husband of 61 years, Alvin Word, Jr.; her three brothers: Lark, Prentiss and Bo; four sisters: Lillian, Hollie, Perle and Janie. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Alvin Word, III and his wife Melissa, Lynda Word Smith and her husband Gary all of Cleveland, TN and Janet Word Richardson and her husband Gary of Oxford, MS; eight grandchildren: Alvin Word, IV, Brian Word, Amanda Word, Jeremy Smith, Stacie Smith Blankenship, Leigh Anne Richardson Heard, John Richardson and Jennifer Richardson Gibbs; nine great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 16, 2009 in Ridgeland, MS. Arrangements made by Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home.
