Gene Brackin, 77, a longtime resident of Cleveland passed away Saturday, October 3, 2009 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Baptist Church for 65 years. Mr. Brackin was the last of eight children; he retired in 1994 from Bowater Paper Mill after 40 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Riley Davis and Ethel Ownby Brackin; seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nell Brackin; children, Mitchell "Mickey" Brackin of Cleveland, Tommy Herd and his wife Bunny Brackin Herd of Cleveland; grandchildren, Andrew Brackin, Elizabeth Brackin, Jonathan Brackin, Brittany Herd, Jeremi Herd; one very special great- grandchild, Brackin Ford; brother-in-law, Bobby Fulbright and wife Doris of Benton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Langford and Reverend R.T. Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
