Roy Madison William Hicks, 69, a resident of Cleveland passed away Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the family residence with family and friends by his bedside. Mr. Hicks fought a valiant battle with cancer. He was a member of Unity Church of God. He was employed with Gulf Life Insurance, Kentucky Central, Bendix Corp., Bradley Nursing Home, Southeast Home Health and retired from United Grocery. He was a loving father and grandfather. Roy was a people person and never met a stranger. He enjoyed sports and his dog, Precious. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Anne Hicks and sister, Louise Boles. He is survived by the mother of his children, Emma Jo Hicks; son, Randell Hicks of Cleveland; daughters: Stephanie Hyde and husband Paul, Tammy Bowers and husband Gary and Sonya Groomes, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Heather Rutledge and husband Tim, Ashley Dunn and husband Anthony Douglas and Dakota Hyde all of Cleveland; great granddaughter, little angel Autumn Rutledge; step grandchildren, Cory Hyde and Laura Bowers; brothers, Reverend Lowell Hicks and wife Shirley of Cleveland, Troy Hicks and wife Mary of Murfreesboro; sisters: Martha Rogers and husband Raymond of Cleveland, Jo Ann Truelove and husband Arnold of Cleveland; special little girl, Laveda; special friend, Barbara Geren and very special friend, Willie. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Grady Simpson and Reverend Lowell Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Gospel Church Cemetery with Junior Green, Wayne Brock, Robert Groomes, David Rose and Arnold Truelove serving as pallbearers. Wally Scoggins, Glenn DeFreise, Hagan Hicks, Brian Boles, Jackie Flowers and Cory Hyde will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
