Betty Baker Roark, 92, a lifelong resident of Birchwood, passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 at the family residence. She was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church where she served as the church treasurer and pianist for many years. Early in life she was employed by Davenport Hosiery Mill in Chattanooga and was later employed as an elementary school teacher at Birchwood Elementary School for seventeen years and an assistant Post Master of Birchwood for ten years. Betty and her husband, Arthur Roark operated a successful dairy in Birchwood. She was preceded in death by her parents, William F. Baker and Martha J. Priddy Baker; her husband, Arthur Roark; two brothers, Frank Baker and John Gamble; four sisters: Cleo Poston, Kate Baker, Ruby Baker and Arnette Moon. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Jerri Baker of Elizabethton; nephew, David Moon and wife, Alice of Birchwood, nieces: Patsy McClure of Benton, Sue Marler of Vonore and Sarah Baker of Elizabethton; special great nephew, Andy Moon and wife, Brittany of Ooltewah and special great niece, Emily Moon of Birchwood; great nieces, Jane Paxton of Benton and Heather White of Tacoma, MD. Graveside services will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Birchwood Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor David Delmotte officiating. Dee Roark, Randy Roark, Jeff Bischoff, Lynn Roark, Allan Roark and Jesse Roark will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
