Gordon Bruce Suttle, 70, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2009 at his home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland. Born October 10, 1938 in Pleasant Hill, Cumberland County, TN, he was the son of the late Carlen Herschel Suttle and the late Katherine Neal Suttle. He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University and the University of Tennessee. He taught mathematics at Bradley Central High School for 33 years and was Jim Smiddy's first assistant girls' basketball coach at Bradley Central High School. He coached with Smiddy for many years, including the 1970 State Championship Team. He is survived by his sister, Suzanne Suttle Caplenor and husband, Jeff of Signal Mountain; two nieces, Amy Caplenor Liscomb of Birmingham AL and Molly Rhea Caplenor of Atlanta, GA; two great nieces, one great nephew and very special friend, Harriett Elizabeth Caldwell of Cleveland. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Moncrief and the Reverend Tom Wickes officiating. The family will receive friends from 12 noon-2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
