John Lewis McGowan, Jr. 53, a resident of Athens, TN went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2009. He was of the Church of God faith. He was a man of many and varied talents, with a passion for music. He had a winning personality and the most charming smile you ever saw. Mr. McGowan was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend. He served with the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Mildred McGowan and James and Vivian Castle. He is survived by his wife, Jeannie McGowan of Athens, TN; parents, John Lewis McGowan, Sr. and Louise Castle McGowan of Cleveland; sisters, Connie Starnes and husband Ed of Ooltewah, TN; Teresa Vincent and husband David of Cleveland; son, Chris McGowan of Franklin, KY; daughters, Amanda McGowan of Portland, TN and Kellie Faegre and her husband Benson of Champlain, MN; stepson, Mark Claypool of Tri-cities, WA. He leaves behind a very large, loving family including several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and special cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 6, 2009 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Mitch Maloney officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Chuck Castle,Billy Castle, Jimmy Castle, Justin Kennedy, Ronnie Carroll, Laith Alshalchy, Jason Castle and Roger Castle will be serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 5, 2009 at the funeral home.
