Clifton Leon Masengil, 73, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday in a local hospital. He was a member of Big Spring Baptist Church; an avid gardener and woodcraftsman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Bowater after twenty-five years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Reverend Luther Masengil and Agnes Scott Masengil; brother, Donald Masengil and sister, Wilma Ownby. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Painter Masengil of Cleveland; two children: Dara Boring and husband, Doug of Cleveland; Denise Hatfield and husband, Richard of Ocoee; four grandchildren: Lara Helton and Steven Helton of Murfreesboro; Mark Boring of Cleveland; Anelisa Hatfield and Adam Hatfield of Ocoee; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 in Fort Hill Cemetery with Pastor George Bulson and Doug Boring officiating. Mark Boring, Adam Hatfield, Steven Helton, Brian Brock, Doug Boring and Richard Hatfield will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. His family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Fike Funeral Home.
