Jane Vaughan

Jane Vaughan (Eliza Jane Sherrill Vaughan) was born October 22, 1906 near Luminary, TN and departed life at 101 years old in Life Care. She lived and died gently.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Norman Vaughan.

She graduated from Maryville College in the spring of 1929 and was married in the fall. They moved to Cleveland in 1933 to open a Home Store in the Fillauer Building. In 1936 they opened Vaughan's Food Store on the corner of Church and First Street and later opening Vaughan's Super Market on Inman Street in 1950. They remained in the grocery business until 1962. They also had a business in real estate, independent telephone companies, cable TV and farming. They bought Vaughan Apartments (former Rymer Apartments) in 1945, where she lived until January 2006.

She was a member of Central Church of Christ since 1940.

She is survived by her daughter, Martha McDowell (Charles); grandsons, Clark Willmore (Kim), Clay Willmore (Tammy) and Chris Willmore (Doris), their father, Sam Willmore; seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the Central Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Zack, Josh and Sam Willmore, Brad Cowell and Estel Cody serving as pallbearers.

Her family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the church prior to the service.
