William Jack Stanley, 82, a resident of Bradley County passed away Wednesday March 26, 2008 in a local hospital. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Mr. McFarland loved his family and his church.
William Jack Stanley, born March 9, 1925 was drafted into the United States Navy three weeks after his 18th birthday. He had five weeks of basic training, one week of liberty and was then shipped to the South Pacific. He was a Seaman First Class SV6 serving on the USS George Campbell and is credited with one submarine and one Japanese comacauses'. After Japan's surrender he was on the second wave going into Tokyo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; J.C. Stanley and Nell Fleming Stanley; first wife Edna Stanley and second wife Norma Lee Stanley.
He is survived by his stepmother, Kate Stanley, brothers; Phillip Stanley, Larry Stanley and Don (Wilma J.) Stanley, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 28, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Isbill officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Charles "Red" Lowrance, Don McClanahan, Bob Loope, Raya Black, Doug Lance and George Smith serving as pallbearers. Everette Harris will be serving as honorary pallbearer.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
The family request memorials be made to Hopewell Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Stanley.
