Eugene (Gene) Norris, 81, a long time resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, April 07, 2007 in a local hospital. He was a member of the Bellfounte Baptist Church. He enjoyed NASCAR and local stock car racing. He was an avid stockcar driver in his younger days. He owned and operated Norris Shell Station from 1947-1985 and also Norris Amoco Service Station and Norris Towing Wrecker Service. He was awarded several awards from U-haul for 40 years of service.
Mr. Norris was the son of the late Oliver Norris and Rose Norris and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Dodd Norris; sister, Elizabeth Norris.
Survivors include his wife Frankie Norris of Cleveland; daughters, Teresa Hyde and husband, Kenny of Cleveland and Christine Long and husband, Mitchell of Cleveland; sons, Gary Norris and wife, Peggy of Cleveland and Steve Dixon and wife, Joyce of Cleveland; seven grandchildren: Shelly Flowers, Blake Hyde, Zach Dixon, Gary (Chipper) Norris, Rusty Norris, Mathew Long and Jonathan Long all of Cleveland; sister, Marguerite Rainey of Cleveland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Lake Walker and Reverend Victor Hayes officiating. Interment will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service.
His family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday,
April 9, 2007 at the funeral home prior to the service.
