Harry L. Nipper, 85, passed away June 23, 2008. He was a resident of East Ridge, TN for 48 years. He was born in Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Eva Haulk Nipper; parents, Harvey and Lennie Nipper; brothers, Howard Nipper and Mack Nipper and a sister Faye Nipper Andresen.
He is survived by his special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ray and Linda Haulk of Cleveland; cousins, Kenneth Johnston of Cleveland and Paul Spicer of San Antonio, TX; and wonderful neighbors and friends.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1940 serving 20 years until 1960. He was then transferred to the Fleet Reserve of the United States Navy for 10 additional years of service. He served in the Pacific during all of World War II. He also served in the Korean War. He served on the USS Louisville, USS Anderson, USS LCI, USS Weiss, USS Fremont, USS LSU, USS Hazel, USS Mauna Loa, USS Vulcan and at Sandia Base Albuquerque, New Mexico and at Skiffs Creek Annex in Yorktown, VA. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Nipper worked at Combustion Engineering in Chattanooga in security for 24 years. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95 and the President's American Police Hall of Fame Honor Roll.
A celebration of his life and service to his country with military honors will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend Clayton Burchell officiating.
His family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fike Funeral Home prior to the service in Chattanooga.
