William Lee McConkey, 72, a resident of Decatur passed away Monday, March 24, 2008 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. McConkey was a former employee of the Coca Cola Company, having worked there for fifteen years. He enjoyed fishing and flying small aircraft. He was a big baseball fan; his favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins. He served with the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Clarence B. McConkey and Flora Eaton McConkey and twin brother, Ross McConkey.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Linda McConkey; sons, Michael Lee McConkey of Polk County, Donny E. McConkey and wife, Robin of Arkansas, William McConkey and wife Joann of Mégis County; brother, Paul McConkey; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Lee Hammond.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. March 27, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Ogle Wattenbarger officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
