T. Lorene Adams Little Mantooth, age 89, of Caldwell, Idaho, formerly from Cleveland Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. We will love and miss her forever.
Lorene was born May 25, 1918, at the home of her parents, Earl and Maud Adams, on Mann Creek, located north of Weiser, Idaho. She was the first of three children. Her ancestors were early settlers in the area. Growing up she attended Saling School on Mann Creek. Lorene graduated from Weiser High School in 1936. After high school, Lorene traveled to Chicago to attend Sherwood Music School, where she received a degree in Piano in 1938. During World War II she joined the Marines and served at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in California. It was there that she met Theodore R. Little (Doc). They were married in Weiser in 1947. After they had completed their service time, they returned to Doc's home in Cleveland, Tennessee. Here she spent the next 50 years of her life. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from Sherwood Music School in 1949, and taught in schools located in Missouri, California, and finally Tennessee, where she taught in Chattanooga, and the Waterville Elementary School in Cleveland. Lorene retired from her teaching career in 1981. Doc passed away in 1983. Lorene married Jasper Herman Mantooth in 1984. He passed away in 1994.
Lorene's interests included her family, bird watching, rock hunting, sewing, history, geology, and traveling. She took many car trips across the country stopping at all the interesting sites. Lorene always enjoyed sharing these trips with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her trips to Hawaii, New Zealand and Australia.
Lorene was a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Retired Teachers Association, and the Mann Creek Busy Bees in Weiser. She was made an honorary member of the Tennessee Horseshoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame in 1995 for her contributions and continuing support for Doc's passion of horseshoe pitching.
Lorene is survived by one sister, Neola Rogers of Auburn, Washington, two nieces, Veta Young of Idaho, Janice Fredrickson of Washington, and one nephew Robert Hoffman of Idaho. She is also survived by stepchildren Judy Varnell, Jack Mantooth, Lake Mantooth, and Lola Anderson of Cleveland, and Nelda Mayo of Florida, and special friends Gene and Ruth Disharoon of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ineta Hoffman.
