Donald Gene Jett, age 76, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, December 25, 2006 at his home after a lengthy illness. He attended Westwood Baptist Church. Before moving to Cleveland in 1988 Mr. Jett lived in Miami, FL where he was employed by Coastal Oil Corporation. Mr. Jett was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the United States Navy on the destroyer, USS Chandler from 1948-1956. After his retirement he enjoyed playing with his granddaughter, working in the yard and traveling. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Greely Jett, Sr. and Willie Mathis Jett; sister, Barbara Jo Jett Keener; brothers, Horace Greely (Joe) Jett, Jr. and Harry Jett and stepson, Terry Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Plemons Jett of Cleveland; stepson, Gregory Davis, Winchester, TN; stepdaughter, DeAnna Davis of Winchester, TN; three step grandchildren: Charly Godfrey and husband, Daniel Godfrey, Elizabeth Davis and Nicole Bates; brothers and sisters-in-law: William "Billy" and Faye Jett of Jackson, MS, Charles and Eleanor Jett of Weatherford, TX, Leon and Hazel Jett of Charleston, SC; sisters and brother-in-law: Dorothy Stoner of West Palm Beach, FL, Nelda Jett of Lubbock, TX and Brenda and John Patterson of Dalton, GA; aunt,, Odell Conner of Griffin, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens in Dalton, GA with military honors.
The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
