Harold L. Jernigan, 79, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2008 in a local healthcare facility. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving in occupied Germany in the 22nd Constabulary A Troop 2nd Platoon. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2598 and a member of the Cleveland Jaycees back in the 1950's. He was a former car salesman at C.C. Card Auto Company and a realtor at Carroll & Greene Real Estate. He was a charter member of Northside Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ines Hamilton Jernigan; his son, Hal Jernigan, in 1979, maternal grandparents, Albert Henry and Grace Griffin Hamilton; paternal grandparents, James Fain Jernigan and Nancy Atnip Jernigan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ramsey Jernigan of Cleveland; one daughter, Jeanie Cloud and her husband Tom of Cleveland; one granddaughter, Emily Cloud of Cleveland; nephews: Tony Lyle and Jim Lyle; and nieces: Paula Varnell, Amanda Willoughby and Mollie McAmis.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Northside Presbyterian Church with Reverend Art Pflug and Reverend David Tullock officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
His family will receive friends Saturday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Fike Funeral Home.
