Rose Ellen Housley, 81, a resident of McDonald, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at her residence. She was born October 20, 1926, in the McDonald community where she had lived all her life. Ellen loved the outdoors, gardening, canning and sewing. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of the late Arthur F. Sliger and Florence Inez Sliger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles (C.W.) Housley, daughter, Cathy Kirkpatrick, brothers: Maurice Sliger and Jack Sliger, and sisters: Peggy Johnson and Thyra Cook.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law: Beverly and Robert Teague of McDonald, and Angela and David Coffey of Cleveland; son-in-law, Marvin Kirkpatrick of McDonald; grandchildren: Megan and Jordan Coffey, Joshua and Melissa Kirkpatrick; sisters: Elizabeth Wilson of Ooltewah, and Barbara Howard of McDonald; brothers: Robert (Bobby) Sliger of Cleveland, Frank Sliger, Charles (Gene) Sliger and Hubert Sliger, all of McDonald.
Her daughters, Beverly and Angela, would like to say a special thank you to both aunts, Elizabeth and Barbara, and close family friend, Julie Hannah, for the unselfish love they showed while helping take care of their mother.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2008, in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Russ Maroon and the Reverend Bill Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Dale Miller, Allen Sliger, Bruce Wilson, Marvin Kirkpatrick, Josh Kirkpatrick and Daryl Sliger serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
Her family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
