James Neil Hodgson, Jr., 79, a resident of Cleveland passed away Friday July 25, 2008 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for most of his life.
Mr. Hodgson was a self employed beef cattle farmer. He had retired from Allied Signal after 23 years, and served with the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Neil Hodgson, Sr. and Louise Chandler Hodgson; one brother, John Hodgson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Russell Hodgson of Cleveland; son, James Blake Hodgson (Tammy) of Cleveland; daughters, Janice Louise Frazier (Ben) and Judy Lynne Gilley (Dan) all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Heather Benea Charles, James Allen Lewis, Christopher Alexander Gilley and Carmen Gabrielle Cartwright all of Cleveland; great grandchildren, James Grant Charles and Chloe Nicole Lewis; sisters, Barbara Caldwell of Georgetown and Betty Burnette of Cleveland, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday July 28, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend David Evans and Reverend Wallace Varnell officiating. .Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery with military honors. Nephews, Don and Dean Tatum, Danny and Doug Caldwell, Steve Williams and Allen Varnell will be serving as pallbearers. Other nephews will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
