Max S. Hallum, age 69, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, June 23, 2006 at a local healthcare facility. Mr. Hallum attended Waterville Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Cleveland after thirty years of service as a clerk and carrier. After his retirement he worked at Chattanooga Billiards for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of American Legion Post 81 and the V.F.W.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.J. Hallum and Elizabeth Bowman Hallum; his wife, Katherine Barker Hallum; stepsons: Darryl Phillips and Donny Phillips.
He is survived by his stepson, James Phillips and wife, Margaret of Rohnert Park, CA; daughters-in-law: Susan Phillips of Pensacola, FL and Janet Phillips of Columbia, S.C; step grandchildren: Michelle Phillips of CA, Collette Phillips of S.C., Jamie Phillips of Chattanooga, Danielle Phillips of Knoxville, TN; Chris Phillips and Matt Phillips of CA, Shawn Phillips of VA; two aunts: Nell Brown and husband, Burl Brown and Johnnie Sullivan all of Cleveland; and a very dear friend and caregiver, Betty J. Newton of Cleveland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Mowery officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens. Brandon Ingram, Chris Phillips, Sean Phillips, Kenny Brown, Terry Guy and Douglas Ingram will serves as pallbearers. Ralph Pippenger, Tommy Rollins and Elbert Schrader will serves as honorary pallbearers.
