Eugene (Gene) Clemmer Ellis

Eugene "Gene" C. Ellis, 85, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, June 22, 2007 in an Etowah health care facility. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Ellis proudly served his country during World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries he received during battle. He was of the Baptist faith. He was the son of the late William and Julie Hedden Ellis and was also preceded in death by his wife, Irene Elizabeth (Lib) Ellis, and a brother, Roy Ellis.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Jackie Ellis, and Michael and Gayle Ellis, all of Charleston; two daughters and son-in-law: Patricia Ellis, and Teresa and Monty Davis, all of Cleveland; six grandchildren: Jonathan Ellis, Jena Birdwell, Jack Andrew Ellis, Matthew Ellis, Katie Ellis, and Heath Davis, all of Charleston; four great-grandchildren: Haley Ellis, Andrew Birdwell, Caleb Birdwell, and Noah Birdwell; one brother, Cecil Ellis and wife Delores of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Ellis officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with a white dove release concluding the service.

His family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
