Douglas Duggan, age 63, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away, Monday, January 1, 2007 after a lengthy battle against leukemia. He was born April 15, 1943 to loving parents, Herman and Myrtle Duggan.
He was an active member of Charleston First Baptist Church until 2002 before he became an active member of North Cleveland Baptist Church where he served until his illness.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam, Japan, Guam, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Hawaii. After 36 years of service, he retired from Bell South.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ann Duggan of Cleveland; two children and spouses: Stacey Douglas Duggan and wife, Lori of Bloomington, IN; Sherri Ann Bryant and husband, Jonathan of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Brandon Chase Bryant and twins, Alex Connor and BayLeigh Ann Bryant of Cleveland; parents, Herman and Myrtle Duggan of Charleston, three brothers and spouses: David Duggan and wife, Gayle of Calhoun, John Duggan and wife, Deborah of Cleveland, Larry Duggan and wife, Mary Ann of Charleston; four sisters and spouses: Phyllis Shamblin and husband, Cotton', Kathy Duggan, Janet Newport and husband, Larry all of Charleston and Robin Blankenship and husband, Steve of Calhoun; special nieces and nephews in Bradley County, Texas and Arkansas and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with David Duggan, John Duggan, Larry Duggan, Dr. Daniel P. Roper, Steve Blankenship and Bill Robinson serving as pallbearers. Brandon Chase Bryant, Houston Cotton' Shamblin, John Tyler, co-workers at BellSouth and the Men's I Sunday School Class of North Cleveland Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
