John William "Bill" Dodson, 81, a resident of Charleston, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 26, 2007 in a Chattanooga hospital.
He was a lifelong member of the New Friendship Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of the class of 1944 at Bradley Central High School. He was inducted into the Bradley County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2005. Mr. Dodson was a member of the Dairy Farmers of America. He was a successful dairy farmer in the area until just recently.
He was the son of the late Walter and Bessie Duggan Dodson, early residents of the Chatata Valley Community. His step daughter, Stephanie Allmon also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Dodson; 4 sons and daughters-in-law, John and Charlotte Dodson, Bob and Karen Dodson, Tom and Tina Dodson and Greg and Teresa Dodson, all of Cleveland; step son, Robbie Allmon of Meigs County and step daughter, Linda Presswood of Charleston; sister, Clara D. Carroll of Charleston; seven grandchildren; Andy Dodson and Kim Ledford of Decatur, AL, Angie Stephens and Heather Kidd of Cleveland; Adam Dodson of Australia, Lynn Presswood of Polk County and Leona Dodson of CA; two step grandsons, Chris Adams of the USAF, AK and Brad Triplett of Cleveland; 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with his friend and neighbor, the Reverend Earl Farris officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with his sons serving as pallbearers: John, Dodson, Bob Dodson, Tom Dodson, Greg Dodson, Robbie Allmon and Pudgie Payne. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Presswood and the Bradley County Fire and Rescue Station # 7. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
His family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
