Doyle A. Dixon

July 16, 1936 — August 21, 2008

Doyle Alvin Dixon, 72, a lifelong resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2008 in an Athens hospital following a lengthy illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel O. and Jessie Dixon, brothers: Raymond and Roy Dixon, and sisters: Nettie Woods and Georgia Coffman.

Mr. Dixon was a member of the 1st Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Cleveland. He was a lifetime member of the Jaycees where he was a past president. He was also a member of the Charleston Masonic Lodge, the Cleveland Lions Club, and the 1944 Fraternal Order of the Elks. He was retired from Bowater of Calhoun.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen McCoy Dixon; daughters: Karen Dixon Cox and husband Richard of Knoxville, and Jennifer Dixon Elwood of Salt Lake City, UT; son, Eric Dixon and wife Kristi of Athens; several grandchildren: Brandon Elwood, Ashton Elwood Olsen, Grayson Elwood, Dustin Pettitt, Jared and Madeline Campbell and Jalen and Lindy Dixon. He is also survived by one brother, Elbert Dixon of Chattanooga, and one sister, Sue McAdams of Rossville, GA .

Funeral Services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Pastor Cliff Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Springs Cemetery with a White Dove Release Ceremony concluding the service. Pallbearers include Dustin Pettitt, Jared Campbell, Kenneth Dixon, David Caywood, Mickie Dixon and Brian Dixon.

His family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2008 at the funeral home.

His family has requested that memorials may be made to the 1st Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 161 2nd Street NE, Cleveland TN 37311.
