Fred W. Crittenden, age 75, passed away Sunday morning in Colorado Springs, CO. He was a native of Cleveland and a longtime resident of Colorado Springs.
He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Crittenden was a graduate of Bradley High School where he played football. He was attending Lee College when he was drafted in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal and earned top honors as a sharpshooter. Mr. Crittenden was encouraged to remain in the military because of his skills in negotiating. He worked as a barber in Cleveland and then in Colorado Springs he worked as a barber hairstylist before retiring. He loved Elvis Presley gospel music and enjoyed gardening and growing roses, he was a good photographer and had played Bingo and given prizes to the Indian children on the reservation in SD.
He was the son of the late Bill and Rachel Johnson Crittenden and grandson of the late Abe and Altha Leamon Crittenden and Lee and Sarah Wright Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Crittenden of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Bill M. Crittenden of Chattanooga; sister, Pat Crabtree and husband, Carlin of Riceville and their children, Lynette Crabtree and David Crabtree; sister, Lillian Coile of Cleveland and her children, Jeannie Coile, David Coile, Janet Bunch, Teresa Metaxas, Lonna Gattenby and Donna Marshall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend William Coile officiating. Interment will follow in Eastanallee Cemetery with military honors.
His family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home Saturday prior to the service.
