Clyde Arter Colloms, 87, went to be with his beloved wife of 61 years, Mellie, in the early morning hours of May 25, 2008. Millie preceded Clyde in death on April 15, 2003. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.
Mr. Colloms death on Memorial Day weekend was fitting as Clyde had served with the U. S. Army, 202 Ordnance Depot in World War II. He served in several of the major battles of The European Theater including, D-Day, Battle of The Bulge, Battle of Britain and the invasion of France.
After the war, Clyde came home and went into the plumbing business in 1947, working every day until he had a stroke at the age of 85. Clyde's two sons, Alan and Keith now are continuing to operate the business, Clyde Colloms and Sons Plumbing. Mr. Colloms took great joy in his two grandchildren, Mandi and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, D.C. Colloms and Pearl Murphy Colloms; wife, Mellie Catherine Colloms; brothers, Hoyle, Floyd, Edgar and Fletcher Colloms; sisters, Lottie Colloms and Lora Kate Haney.
He is survived by his two sons, Alan and former wife Teri Colloms, Keith and wife Pennye Colloms; granddaughter, Mandi Colloms; grandson, Andrew Colloms, all of Cleveland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday May 28, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral home with Reverend Jim Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors. Nephews will be serving as pallbearers. Mr. Colloms Sunday School class "The Believers" of Westwood Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
