James B. "Jay" Cofer, 66, a life long resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2007 in a local hospital. He attended the Revival Church of God in Apison. He was the district manager of the Chattanooga Free Press for twelve years. He was the owner of Whisperwood Products Inc. for twelve years where he made picture frames.
Mr. Cofer was preceded in death by his father Esker George Cofer and a brother, Ronald Lee Cofer.
He is survived by his wife Linda Russell Cofer of Cleveland; mother, Madie Scroggins Cofer of Georgetown; step-son, Allan Lovelace and wife Taunya of Cleveland; three grandchildren: Sabrina, Ryan and Nathanael Lovelace; two sisters: Mary Evelyn Earls of Cleveland and Phyllis Elaine Lawhorn and husband, Roger of Georgetown; one niece, Kathy Earls of Cleveland; two nephews: Tim Strickland and wife, Devin of Georgetown and Jason Strickland of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in Cofer Cemetery. Tim Strickland, Jason Strickland, Allan Lovelace, Dale Shell, Douglas Cofer and Roy Aikman will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Davis and Harry Collins. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.
His family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
