Elsie Mary Miller Childers, 90, known affectionately as "Memaw" to all that knew her, passed away on April 11, 2008.
Born in Canton, N.C. on May 10, 1917, she survived the depression, World War l l and raising four children.
She married Howard W. Childers in 1937. They moved to Cleveland in 1954 where they have lived up to the present time.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cleveland and was a committed, loving Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy and John Garfield Miller; brother and sister-in-law Elmer Miller and Louise Miller and brother, Carl Miller; brother-in-law, Thomas "Bud" Wood; two granddaughters, Nonna Lee Childers and Shannon Chambers and niece Susan Wood Bofink.
She is survived by Howard her husband of 70 years, four children; Jerry Childers and wife Mary Jane of Chattanooga, Mary Lane Timpany and husband Dave of Calhoun, TN., Sharon Clark and husband Waylon of Jefferson, Ga., Alan Childers and wife Julie of Knoxville, TN.; eleven grandchildren, two of whom are in heaven with her, thirteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; sister Evelyn Wood and sister-in-law Jean Miller along with many nieces and nephews.
She lived her life with dignity and grace, blessing all of those that were fortunate enough to know her. She will be sincerely missed.
A celebration of her life ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Monday April 14, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Tom Moncrief officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Research Association.
