Bessie Agnes Hancock Burris, 80, a lifelong resident of Cleveland passed away Thursday April 17, 2008 in a local hospital. She was a member of Cloverleaf Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burris was a former 2nd. Grade school teacher, having taught for more than thirty years. She was loved by all her students and parents. She was a member of the ladies Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Harrison Hancock and Lizzie "Granny" Howard Hancock; her husband, P.L. Burris; brothers, Harry Hancock, Carson Hancock, Fred Hancock, Jack Hancock and Jim Hancock; sisters, Ruby Hancock and Lennie Jo Carson.
She is survived by nephews, David Hancock, Tracy Hancock, Jesse Hancock and Shane Hancock all of Cleveland; Steve Hancock of Atlanta, Ga., Tony Hancock of Lexington, Ky.; nieces, Cheri Ellis, Ginger Gobble Susan Howard, Alice Lowe, Judy Still and Peggy Bishop all of Cleveland, several great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday April 20, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Huel Hooker, Reverend Joe Collins and Reverend Tony Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in the Lebanon Cemetery with David Hancock, Steve Hancock, Tracy Hancock, David Ellis, Havard Still and Ronny Bishop serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
