Robert Louis Blackwell, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at a local hospital. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted Blackwell and Alice Massingale Blackwell; sisters: Diane Lowe and Mary Sue Raby; and brother, Everett Blackwell.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Geraldine Bledsoe Blackwell of Cleveland; children: Sara Smith and husband, Randy of Charleston, Charles Blackwell of Cleveland, Charlotte Wilcox and husband, Shawn of Simpsonville, SC, George Blackwell, Steve Blackwell, Mike Blackwell and wife, Marie, Kenneth Blackwell and wife, Diane, and Gilbert Blackwell and wife, Angela all of Cleveland and Roberta Chastain and husband Wayne of Tunnel Hill, GA; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; siblings: Retta Cate, Joyce Malone, Ollie Lewis all of Benton, Louise Blackwell of Cleveland; Larry Blackwell of Benton and Helen Braswell of Wrightsville, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Farris officiating. Interment will follow in New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with his grandsons: Tyler Blackwell, Gilbert Blackwell, Jr., Chris Shrader, Daniel Blackwell, Wayne Blackwell and Derrick Clift serving as pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.
His family will receive friends from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
