Itzel Hoyt Bandy, 99, of Cleveland, died Friday, November 28, 2008 in a local health care facility. He was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church.
Itzel was born on July 4, 1909 in Whitfield County, Georgia and farmed in Little Murray and Cisco. He worked part-time as a mail carrier during the Depression to help make ends meet. He also worked as an electrician, providing the first electrical service to many homes in North Georgia. He moved to Cleveland in 1960 to own and operate a general store on Springplace Road until retiring in 1971.
He was the son of the late William Elbert and Laura "Birdie" Cochran Bandy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Cleta King Bandy; brothers and sisters; John Bandy, Nellie Bandy, Winnie Bandy, Joseph Bandy, Pearl Waters, Cecil Bandy, Maborn Bandy, Virgil Morrison, Wilburn Bandy and Aurora Cox; sons, Jack, Gordon and Bernard Bandy.
Survivors include four sons and six daughters-in-law; Harold and Aline Bandy of Dalton, Ga., Ralph and Betty Bandy , Bill and Eileen Bandy, Jerry and Johnnie Bandy, Glenda Bandy and Roberta Bandy all of Cleveland; 19 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2008 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend Lyle White officiating. Interment will follow in the Sugar Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
