Rev George W. Ayers
February 22, 1918 — December 30, 2008
Reverend George W. Ayers, 90, a resident of Cleveland, transitioned from this walk of life to his heavenly home on December 30, 2008.
He was a lifelong member and minister of the Church of God, headquartered in Cleveland and held a Ministerial Degree with the Church of God for over 70 years.
His assignments and accomplishments were: The Church of God Children's Home, Sevierville, State Overseer of Eastern Canada (Ontario) and State Overseer of the New England States. He had fifteen pastorates: five in KY, one in ID, three in AL, two in FL and four in TN and until his passing was an active member of the Church of God Retired Ministers Association.
During his lifetime he solely financed the building of three small churches in Haiti in memory of him and his wife, Helen and each of his two sons: David and Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Dora Ayers of Cleveland; sons: Rev. Robert Ayers of La France, SC and David L. Ayers of Silver Springs, FL; stepson, Rex Morgan of Cleveland; grandson, Jason Ayers of Greenwood, SC and brother, Paul B. Ayers of Louisville, KY.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Thursday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens on Friday.
His family will receive friends from 7 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.
