Jimmy Randall Abernathy, age 57, a resident of Zephyrhills, FL and formerly of this area, passed away, July 3, 2006 in a Florida hospital. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Abernathy devoted his life to teaching; receiving his PH.D in education; he taught school for 33 years spending 3 of those years teaching in Honduras and 30 years teaching in Pasco County Florida. He was an avid fisherman and a person that loved the outdoors and all of nature.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruby Messer and his father, Paul Abernathy.
He is survived by his wife, Reina Abernathy of Zephyrhills, FL; sons: James Abernathy of Dade City, FL, Christian Abernathy of Richland, FL, Joshua Abernathy of Zephyrhills, FL; daughters: Cassandra Abernathy of Seffner, FL and Andrea Abernathy of Zephyrhills, FL; six grandchildren; brothers: Mark Abernathy of FL, John Abernathy and Bryan Abernathy both of Murphy, NC; sisters: Linda Casteel of Cleveland, Brenda Sue Davis of Maryville, Eva Abernathy, Paula Abernathy and Mary Haggerty all of Murphy, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Rev. David Cross officiating. Interment will follow in Candies Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
