Reverend Charlie J. Johnson, 81, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020 at a local hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier. After leaving the Navy he worked for Toledo Scale Company and AT&T Long Lines.
On October 14, 1961 he married the love of his life, Sandra Johnson. In his early 40’s Charlie went into the mission field and was a church planter in southern Texas and northern Mexico. During his time in the ministry he was a Sunday School director, teacher and pastor at several churches.
He acquired his Ph.D. in ministry in the early 1990’s. Later in life Charlie retired from the ministry and worked at WalMart as a greeter and in the hardware department. He was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Harker Johnson; parents, Shafter Lamar Johnson and Lucille Hurst Johnson; and brother, Shafter Johnson.
Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Susan Jones and husband, Mark of Cleveland and Jacqueline Ann Neil and husband, Butch of Charleston; four grandchildren, Melissa (Tyler) Smith, Justin Jones, Brittany (Logan) Keith and Alysha Suits; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Esper Yauck and Rebecca Carlton; one brother, L. D. Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Junior Burger officiating. The service will conclude with military honors.
His family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home prior to the service.
