James “Jim” O. Young, 84, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 at his home. He was a retired supervisor from Weyerhauser. Jim enjoyed fishing and woodworking and meeting friends at Hardee’s. He was a member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, C. O. and Annabelle Darnell Young; brothers, Charles Young and Bill Young; sons, Larry D. Young and Ricky L. Young; daughter, Sheri West; son-in-law, Larry Higdon; grandson, Joe D. Wright; and granddaughter, Savannah West.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Dorothy Z. Young of Cleveland; his brothers: Joe (Mary) Young and Gene (Faye) Young, all of Cleveland; his children: Marla K. Higdon and Jeri Ann (Jamie L.) Moody, all of Cleveland; his son-in-law, Josh E. West of Cleveland; his daughter-in-law, Patti Young of Polk County; his grandchildren: Angie Higdon, Candice Holcomb, Tanda Higdon, Kaitlyn (Tucker) Maroon, Hunter West, Hayden West, Hanna Moody, Joshlynn West and Bryton Moody, all of Cleveland, Thomas Terry of Polk County, Kendra (Josh) Aly of Etowah, Hannah Rogers of Nashville and Courtney Rogers of Mississippi; his great grandchildren: Gracie Epperson, Jayden Holcomb, Mattie Holcomb, Lynlee Maroon and Malcolm Maroon, all of Cleveland and Declan Aly of Etowah; several nieces and nephews; and special family friend, Leola Evans of Cleveland.
The funeral will be at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at Parkway Baptist Church with Pastor Joe White and Pastor James Staton officiating. Interment will follow in Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Tucker Maroon, Josh Aly, Josh West, Jamie Moody, Frank Viola and Ronnie Patterson serving as pallbearers.
His family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
