James “Jimmy” R. Ray, 94, of Cleveland passed away Sunday, February 7, 2021 in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of Eastside Church of Christ. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII and the Korean War, earning several decorations and the rank of Sergeant. During his tour in the Korean War, he was honored to escort 26 soldiers home to their families to be buried throughout the country.
He owned Miller Real Estate & Appraisal Company for over forty years. He started selling real estate part time for Mr. Bill Miller while he worked at the Tennessee Department of Employment Security as the Veteran’s representative for this area. After 17 years, he retired from the state and became partners with Mr. Miller and owner after Mr. Miller’s retirement.
He loved to garden in his yard and tend to his game chickens, a lifelong hobby he and his dad shared. However, what he enjoyed most was talking with friends. If he could find someone to talk to, he was happy. He contributed his success in life to the number of great friends he had made.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Hildred L. Ray; parents, Floyd and Gypsy Ray; and infant sister, Betty Jo Ray.
He is survived by his daughter, Natalie Wilkinson (Steve) of Kennewick, WA; son, Robby Ray (Lisa); and grandson, Jamie Ray all of Cleveland.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021 in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Minister Jeff Archey and Minister Bill Maynard officiating. The service will conclude with military honors.
