John Z. Powers

December 22, 1922 — August 26, 2020

John Zach Powers, 97, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at a local health care facility.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served as a medic during World War II.  John retired from the construction business.  He was a member of Antioch church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar E. Powers and Rose Marie Sullins Powers; his wife of 56 years, Lela Elizabeth Edwards Powers; son, John Roger Powers; daughter, Pam E. Powers Rehman; and seven siblings. 

Survivors include his son, Dennis Neil Powers and wife, Sheila Miller Powers of Cleveland; son-in-law, Dwight Rehman of Harrison; granddaughter, Anna Paulette Brazzell of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the North Bradley church of Christ (1510 Stuart Road NE, Suite 207, Cleveland TN 37312) with Ministers Aaron Pope and John Deck officiating. 

His family will receive friends from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the service.

John’s wishes were to have his body donated to Meharry Medical College in Nashville.
