Lewis N. Corrington

August 23, 1918 — October 28, 2019

Lt. Col. Lewis Corrington, 101, of Legacy Village in Cleveland TN and formally of Dalton, GA, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019.  He retired from the United States Army after 24 years of service.  During WWII he was with the 191st Tank Battalion and served in North Africa, served on the Anzio beachhead in Italy and participated in the invasion of Southern France.  Lt. Col. Corrington served with the 2nd Engineer Amphibious Brigade and participated in the September 1950 landing at Inchon, Korea.

After retirement from the Army he worked in the Personnel Division of the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, MD as the Chief of Recruitment and Placement Branch, which was responsible for the hiring, placement, promoting and firing of employees of the large Baltimore headquarters. 

Lewis was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Military Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association and National Association of Retired Federal Employees.  He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS degree with high honors also a Masters Degree in Personnel Administration from George Washington University.  Lewis was a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Vickie Freeburg Corrington.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Rosemary Corrington.

His family would like to thank the staff at Legacy Village for the loving care they gave their dad. 

There will be a private ceremony with family.

The family requests that memorials be made to the V-Foundation for Cancer research (v.org) or Broad Street United Methodist Church.
