Mildred Lee Maupin, 90, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at a local healthcare facility. She was an English teacher with the Bradley County and Cleveland City School systems for over 47 years. Mildred was a member of the Cleveland Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, National Education Association and the Daughters of the American Revolution. While at Cleveland Middle School, Mildred was the coordinator of the Spelling Bee for many years. She was honored by the school when they named it the Mildred Maupin Spelling Bee for all her many years of service. She was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Jackson Maupin and Ozra Margaret Gay Maupin; and her brother, John William Maupin.
Survivors include her very special cousin, James Champion of Aurora OR; special friend and caregiver, Lena Parton; and many other close friends.
The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Big Springs United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Elliott and the Reverend Travis Humbard officiating. Interment will follow in Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery in Englewood.
Her visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church prior to the service.
She requested that memorials be made to the Education Department of Big Springs United Methodist Church, 1196 Hardwick Street NE, Cleveland TN 37311 or the Cleveland City Schools Scholarship Fund.
