Patricia A. (Pat) Kinder, 78, a lifelong resident of Bradley County passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the home of her family. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease 14 years ago but had managed to stay relatively active and involved in things she liked to do until the last few months.
Pat was born at home on July 18, 1942 to the late James Ira and Remelle Wade. Her father was later drafted to serve in World War II and as a young child Pat and her mother traveled to Camp Blanding via train, near Starke, Florida to visit with him. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Ira Wade, Jr., who passed at birth. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tonia Danette Kinder, whom she still grieved for deeply - particularly each year at the time of Tonia’s passing. Also, her first husband, and father of their children, John H. Kinder, preceded her in death on March 18, 2020. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, John Spencer.
Pat was a devoted wife, exceptional mother, a great cook, and a lover of things she found beautiful - whether items in her home, her wardrobe, or the birds in her back yard. She lived for most of her life by the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness.” Whether it was the family residence, her appearance, or even her vehicle, things had to meet her definition of cleanliness and her view of them being as close to perfect as possible.
She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She loved her church family and through the years had taught children in Sunday School and served on various committees. She had also served as a Secretary of the neighborhood Ruritan Club in years past, and was also a member of Ocoee Lodge No. 97, IOOF, of Cleveland. Although her main devotion and interest was being a good homemaker, she volunteered for a good number of years in the Bradley Memorial Hospital Gift Shop and later worked part time at Merle Norman.
Pat is survived by her daughter: Terri L. Brown (Randy); sons: John T. “Tony” Kinder (Sheila) and Mitchell T. Kinder (Sherra); five grandchildren: Matthew Brown (Kelli); Meghan Panter (Chad); Laura Bible (Matt); Joshua Kinder; and Hannah Grace Kinder. Additionally, she is survived by seven great-grandchildren. All are in the local area. She has several cousins and also nieces and nephews on the Kinder side of the family. She has a number of friends, and in particular two special friends - Lillian Atchley and Betty Gay.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Hill Cemetery. It will be officiated by her pastor, the Reverend Marvin Howard. She will be at rest with John Kinder, their daughter Tonia, and her parents, James Ira and Remelle Wade.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, c/o David Frederick, Treasurer, 808 Steed Street, NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and others who have been involved with her care through the years. Since late June 2020, a special “thank you” is extended to the doctor, nurses, and staff of Kindred Hospice for their exceptional care and concern.
