Sylvester "Cedar" Torres

January 1, 1932 — December 16, 2020

Surrounded by his immediate family, uplifted by the prayers of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends, and serenaded by angels, Sylvester “Cedar” Torres, 88, of Ooltewah, Tennessee entered eternal rest at his home on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 following a four-year battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born on January 01, 1932, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Warrington, England.  After his discharge, he worked in oilfield maintenance and ended his career as Supervisor of the Coastal Division for Shell Oil Company.  Afterwards, he opened his own oilfield maintenance business consulting for major oilfield pipeline companies throughout the continental United States.

He was a member of Redemption Point Church in Ooltewah, Tennessee.  He knew with certainty that he had a place in eternal glory at the seat of the throne of God.

He was the husband of Gertrude “Trudy” Torres; the father of Michael Dale Torres (Sharon) of Bastrop, Louisiana and Debra Kay Torres of Ooltewah, Tennessee; the grandfather of Tricia Renee Torres Dunagan (Frankie) of Hallsville, Texas, Michael Brad Torres (Shawna) of Gladewater, Texas, and Michael Keith Torres of Covington, Louisiana; the great-grandfather of Dalton Charles Dunagan, Dylon Case Dunagan, Michael Hayden Torres, Noah James Torres and Easton Michael Torres; the sibling of Frank Torres, Jr. of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Vicki Morris of Bastrop, Louisiana.

Sylvester “Cedar” Torres was preceded in death by father, Frank Torres, Sr.; mother, Maggie Busby Torres; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Taylor Torres; and several siblings.

The family would especially like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their outstanding care, kindness and compassion given over the last thirty months.  We are filled with gratitude to the special folks who provided their unwavering services especially Ramona Davis, Michelle Hicks, Jackie Stovall, Bill Bond, Cindy Roth, Einre Lopez and David Reynolds.

The celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 1:00 PM at House of Prayer International in Monroe, Louisiana with the Reverend Raymond Aven officiating.  There will be no visitation prior to the service.   Facial masks and hand sanitizer will be available before entering the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Life Stream Ministries (designate Israel Project), PO Box 822, Ooltewah, Tennessee 37363 or Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.  (https://www.hospiceofchattanooga.org/donation-form).

Online condolences can be left on Sylvester “Cedar” Torres’s memorial tribute at www.fikefh.com.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command,
with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

And so we will be with the Lord forever.   Therefore encourage one another with these words.

I Thessalonians 4: 13-18
