Wanda Caylor Melton, 84, of Old Fort, passed peacefully into her Savior’s hand on Monday, November 30, 2020. She was born July 25, 1936 to the late J. C. and Edna Hasty Caylor and was the oldest of three children, including siblings, J. E. “Mouse” Caylor and Larry Caylor.
Wanda graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in Dalton, GA and went on to attend Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. It was there she met the love of her life, Samuel David Melton of Cleveland. After marriage, Wanda received her degree in education from the University of Chattanooga (now known as UTC). It was not long after that Sam and Wanda put their trust in the Lord and headed to Fort Worth, TX where Sam attended and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Together Sam and Wanda have served lives of ministry and service in the Southern Baptist and Presbyterian churches.
Small in stature, but big in spirit, Wanda poured her care and concerns into her family and friends. Her passion was demonstrated in her love of home keeping skills which included baking, quilting and home canning. She loved gardening and supported local farms. Wanda was also a gifted teacher who served many years working with children of all ages. She received her master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Reverend Samuel David Melton.
Wanda leaves her daughters, Sharon Roden and husband, Roddy and Sheri Melton and husband, Peter Gerschefski; grandson, James Arnold; brothers, J.E. “Mouse” Caylor and Larry (Betty) Caylor; and many other loving family and friends.
Due to the current COVID pandemic a celebration of Wanda’s life will be scheduled and announced to family and friends at a later date.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
